Here's the result of last nights session, inspired by my good friend and exceptional photographer Kate

Sometimes it's the right thing to improvise and follow your feelings, and on this occasion I did just that.

And so that is how this painting arrived. Late at night/ early in the morning, coffee drunk and a coiled spring unwound as a finished canvas is lifted from the easel, I then decided to stand up and paint this wee guy.

I've been having some wonderful moments in the studio recently, letting go and trying something new. It's interesting to be in that frame of mind, and to work instinctively.

Once I had found this painting, it felt like I had finally laid spinning wheels to the road, It was an incredible energy. Painting it has been a wonderful journey, and I've learned a great deal from creating this piece. Fiona and Brinny are in love with it, and I couldn't have hoped for a better response.

While all this was going on, I had another sale on the site as another customer placed an order for a large print of Last Light. This convinced me I deserved a dram.

This is always a good and a bad time. It's good because the work at the canvas you've been painting is done, and for a moment you can catch your breath, maybe stay in bed and sleep instead of stay up late painting, and wake up feeling rested.

I think that may be why this painting in particular makes me feel quite emotional. The buyer fell in love with it immediately. That kind of reaction from someone about your art, which is tied to so many of your own emotions, fear, accomplishment, enjoyment, struggle, joy, creates such a palpable reaction in yourself

Late Exchange, waiting patiently to be presented at auction.

September 03, 2016

So, it's all over and done with. The Moray Chamber of Commerce Business Awards dinner has come and gone, and with it, the auction for my painting. While I wasn't able to attend in person, I was following the night on Twitter, and was thrilled to hear my painting achieved £500. Not only that, it did so in a room packed with the very people I want to work with. Business leaders in the local area, some of whom have global customers. Even writing that makes me a little nervous. Probably just as well I wasn't there eh?

While all this was going on, I had another sale on the site as another customer placed an order for a large print of Last Light. This convinced me I deserved a dram. This print will be delivered direct to the customer from the Printers, and I'll hopefully be visiting them next week to see the print in its new home.

In other news, those of you who follow me on Facebook will know that my work is now under the wing of the lovely Lesley Ann Parker, of Leap Gallery. I met with her during what has been the most hectic week of the year, and we hung my three large canvasses in her gallery space at the showroom of the Elgin Marble Company. This made me a little unsure when it was first suggested, but after seeing them hung on the wall above some gorgeous fireplaces, I was sold. Lesley has a good eye, and she placed them thoughtfully above settings which tone with the paintings. It was a good meeting, and I'm looking forward to working with Lesley, moving forward.

Another event that has drawn to a close was my first solo exhibition. It has been a great experience and I must pass on the greatest of thanks for Carrie Hellyer who had not only given me a fantastic opportunity, but who has helped me through the steep learning curve of organising and running such an event. I will continue to stay in touch with her.

With the closing of my exhibition comes the delivery of the Red Dots, and I've begun taking the sold pieces to their new homes. First to meet its new owner was Violet Gold. I happened to meet the buyer while stopping for some groceries on my way home from the Gallery, and so was able to hand over the painting immediately. I love this, as the enthusiasm and love the person has for the painting is often as much or more than me. It's nourishing in a way, as it feeds energy into the 'You're Doing Something Right' box. This needs to be kept topped up, as it's what I use when I run out of coffee. Speaking of which......
