Here's the result of last nights session, inspired by my good friend and exceptional photographer Kate

Sometimes it's the right thing to improvise and follow your feelings, and on this occasion I did just that.

And so that is how this painting arrived. Late at night/ early in the morning, coffee drunk and a coiled spring unwound as a finished canvas is lifted from the easel, I then decided to stand up and paint this wee guy.

I've been having some wonderful moments in the studio recently, letting go and trying something new. It's interesting to be in that frame of mind, and to work instinctively.

Once I had found this painting, it felt like I had finally laid spinning wheels to the road, It was an incredible energy. Painting it has been a wonderful journey, and I've learned a great deal from creating this piece. Fiona and Brinny are in love with it, and I couldn't have hoped for a better response.

While all this was going on, I had another sale on the site as another customer placed an order for a large print of Last Light. This convinced me I deserved a dram.

This is always a good and a bad time. It's good because the work at the canvas you've been painting is done, and for a moment you can catch your breath, maybe stay in bed and sleep instead of stay up late painting, and wake up feeling rested.

Pass the coffee, with extra coffee.....

I think that may be why this painting in particular makes me feel quite emotional. The buyer fell in love with it immediately. That kind of reaction from someone about your art, which is tied to so many of your own emotions, fear, accomplishment, enjoyment, struggle, joy, creates such a palpable reaction in yourself

Pass the coffee, with extra coffee.....

August 25, 2016

Hi again. What a busy few weeks it's been. Been busy working to try and optimise the website, and have even managed to sell a couple of prints. Speaking of Prints, I've recently changed things on my Available Works page, allowing greater choice, for size and budget, so you've got even more choice than before. I recently changed to a different associate for creating my prints, and the results are gorgeous. The finished product is of a high standard with little touches that help it feel special. I've also changed from having paper prints done, to having them all on stretched canvas. I feel this is pertinent at the moment, as my work is created on the same surface. This helps the prints seem more authentic.

Since I last typed an entry I have painted a number of works, one of which is called Violet Gold. This was created to be included in my exhibition, which is still ongoing by the way ;) But it had barely  made it to the gallery when it was snapped up by our local History expert.

I think that may be why this painting in particular makes me feel quite emotional. The buyer fell in love with it immediately. That kind of reaction from someone about your art, which is tied to so many of your own emotions, fear, accomplishment, enjoyment, struggle, joy, creates such a palpable reaction in yourself. Well, for me anyway.

So, currently I'm completing a work which is being donated to my local Chamber of Commerce, in Elgin. This serves the Moray area, and provides an essential hub through which all local businesses of all sizes can interact, collaborate and support each other. The painting, shown above (known herafter as Late Exchange), will be auctioned at an upcoming awards dinner to raise funds for the Chamber. This is too good an opportunity to miss, as it will get my artwork in front of an audience I may have found difficult to find. It'll be exciting to see what it fetches for them.

As well as all this excitement, I've started a part time job, to help with the bills, and our oldest has started at a new school. Hence the request for coffee with extra coffee.

Right, where did I leave that bag of extra strong beans.....
